Privacy
What we do with your data.
As little as possible. Below is exactly what we keep track of and why.
Who we are
RefuBees is a project of Blindpainters Foundation in Amsterdam. This website is refubees.org. Questions about privacy can go to info@refubees.org.
What we keep track of
We measure visits with Simple Analytics. This works without cookies and without personal data: we see how many people view a page, not who they are.
Cookies
We set one cookie. It remembers that you have seen the cookie notice. Your browser keeps the conversation with Omnibee for a while, until you close the tab. We do not use cookies to track you or for advertising.
If you adopt a bee
When you adopt, you fill in your name and email address. We store these in our adoption app at karma.refubees.org to keep you up to date about your bee. You can unsubscribe at any time, and we will then delete your details.
If you email us
We keep emails you send us for as long as we need to answer your question. Photos of bees you send in may be put on the site with your name, but we ask you first.
Maps, font and videos
Maps come from OpenStreetMap. We load the map code through unpkg and the Barlow font through Google Fonts. These services see your IP address when they load. Our videos are on our own server.
Chat with Omnibee
On every page you can ask questions to Omnibee, our AI assistant. To answer, we send your question, the conversation so far and the page you are on to Anthropic, the company behind the language model Claude. This may happen outside the EU. We keep questions and answers without names, to improve the assistant. We only keep your IP address as an encrypted code from which the address cannot be recovered. Please do not put personal details in your question.
Your rights
You can always ask what data we hold about you, and have it corrected or deleted. Just email us. You can also file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
