Koos Biesmeijer holds the position of Scientific Director at Naturalis, the Dutch Nature Museum located in Leiden. Furthermore, he has been honored with the title of Professor of Natural Capital at Leiden, a testament to his dedication to ecological stewardship. Collaborating extensively with both scientific and societal partners, his mission revolves around enhancing the Dutch landscape to better support pollinators and promote biodiversity on a broader scale.
During the grand public exhibition ceremony of the BeeTotem situated at the Admiralengracht, he played a pivotal role by officially inaugurating the event. In his address to the audience, he made a significant announcement: ‘This is the most exquisite bee hotel I have ever encountered, and I must say that the Bee Totem is truly impressive. It underscores the principle that we are interconnected, and particularly for the generations to come, it’s our collective responsibility to ensure that we leave this world in a better state than we found it.
‘I am absolutely delighted with the Bee Totem project, and I am hopeful that we can explore the possibility of establishing a similar initiative at Naturalis.’
