Die Honigbiene ist nur eine davon; die \u00fcbrigen sind Wildbienen, die wesentlich zur biologischen Vielfalt beitragen. \n\n\n\nWildbienen produzieren zwar keinen Honig, aber sie sind hervorragende Best\u00e4uber. Viele von ihnen sind auf die Best\u00e4ubung bestimmter Pflanzenarten spezialisiert (monolektisch und oligolektisch), was die spezialisiertesten Bl\u00fctenbesucher zu den optimalen Best\u00e4ubern macht. Tomaten zum Beispiel werden von Wildbienen best\u00e4ubt, nicht von Honigbienen. Wildbienen sind die Grundlage unseres \u00d6kosystems; ihr Verschwinden w\u00fcrde eine Kettenreaktion ausl\u00f6sen, die das derzeitige sechste Massenaussterben beschleunigen und einen noch nie dagewesenen Verlust an biologischer Vielfalt verursachen w\u00fcrde.
